Evaluation of Glass Fiber/polypropylene Composites by Quantitative Laser Ultrasonic and Acoustic Emission Techniques

چکیده
The objective of this work is to study the influence of the moulding conditions of manufacture on the mechanical behaviour of the composites, when which they are submitted to mechanical loading. In order to evaluate the quality of interfacial adhesion, two non-destructive testing procedures were combined. Laser ultrasonic was employed to evaluate the state of the composite microstructure depending on the moulding conditions. Measurements of ultrasonic velocity and attenuation were applied to characterize microstructure and to assess the mechanical properties of the composite. Acoustic Emission techniques coupled with mechanical testing in mode II were then used to study the progressive nature of interface damage due to mechanical loading in mode I

The present study introduces two quantitative parameters to compare the accuracy of ultrasonic C-scan testing and X-ray radiography methods in the damaged area detection under low-velocity impact in polymer-based composites. For this purpose, the hand lay-up technique of composite processing was employed to prepare the composite specimen. A composite specimen consisting of the glass fiber reinf...
متن کاملAn Acoustic Emission Study of Flax Fiber-Reinforced Polypropylene Composites
Sensitivity to crack propagation in flax fiber-reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites has been examined on SEN-T specimens. The sound waves that arise due to loading have been investigated with the acoustic emission method. Linear functional relationship has been revealed between the number of acoustic events that occur during loading and the fracture toughness. It has also been observed that...
